Children

My work addresses children who present with:

  • Difficulties with relationships (aggression, sibling rivalry, opposition to family rules)

  • Difficulties at school (learning difficulties, problems concentrating, problems sitting still)

  • Anxiety (trouble detaching from attachment figures, fear of new situations)

  • Variations in mood (mood swings, sadness, euphoria)

  • Disturbed sleep patterns (waking frequently, waking too early, difficulties falling asleep, insomnia)

  • Difficulties eating in a healthy and balanced way

  • Trouble with adapting to new situations (separation, divorce, births, moving house)

  • Or simply when parents see their child has low self-esteem, is sad or withdrawn

I work with children from infancy, in collaboration with parents and teachers if necessary. Evaluations and assessments are performed to help assess root causes and better understand the difficulties the child presents.

My therapeutic work with children is essentially based on play and creativity – symbolic games, drawing, painting, sand play and fairy tales.

Adolescents

My work addresses adolescents who present with:

The first step in the process aims at evaluating the root causes of presenting symptoms.

In addition to the above presenting issues, teenagers are often encouraged to come for a consultation if their impulsive behaviour and their emotional outbursts cause concern for parents and/or teachers. Puberty and the onset of sexuality is a new deal. The use of video games, social networking and such can often become a source of conflict within families.

During this transitional phase the family pattern is often rejected and can result in the adolescent looking elsewhere for role models/examples, leading to a breakdown in interactions and communication with their parents.

To be able to speak freely and confidentially with a professional is often beneficial for the entire family system. My work with adolescents is mainly based on dialogue, sometimes associated with the analysis of dreams and creative work (painting , sand play etc).

Adults

There are many reasons why someone may benefit from therapy. It can help one to understand her/himself better, and by doing so also may help make sense of life in difficult times. It can provide insights into why one makes the choices one do and help one understand what new possibilities might be open to her/him.

Analytic psychotherapy is for adults in search of meaning. Often a feeling of emptiness or unease and a need to understand his/her own suffering can prompt a person to seek a consultation. The emotional distress is generally expressed by:

  • sadness

  • anxiety

  • relationship difficulties

  • difficulty to lead a healthy and balanced life (work, sports , food, sleep)

  • important life changes (births, deaths , separation, job change , moving )

  • repetitive destructive behaviours

  • physical reactions to emotional issues

In therapeutic consultations with adults we work together to identify the sources of the issue and how to deal with them. My position is to function as a non-judging facilitator to help an individual clarify their needs. My aim is to help a person activate their inner resources to guide them towards choosing the path to take.  Being able to openly speak your thoughts is liberating and helps to provide clarity. In addition we can work with dream analysis and creativity (painting, writing, sand play etc) to help activate an individual’s self-transformation process.
